The Jura by bike in 2 days
Two days in the Jura wine hills without a car: the train takes the long way round the Doubs, the bike takes the vineyards of Arbois and Château-Chalon, and the way home is free on the TER.

Day 1 — Train to Dole, ride to Arbois
Collect the bikes

A rental shop in the old town, open seven days by appointment — book the bikes a day or two ahead. Optymo’s self-service bikes are made for short hops (24 hours maximum), not a mountain weekend.
Belfort station, train to Dole
TER, about 2 h 15 with one change at Besançon-Viotte
Bikes ride free on the TER Bourgogne-Franche-Comté trains, no reservation, first come first served. Departures run about every two hours — check the timetable the day before. By bike the Doubs valley is beautiful but long — EuroVelo 6 needs 175 km from Belfort to Dole. Save the legs for the vineyards.
Dole, the canals

Ride to Arbois
About 32 km, 2 h
The direct road east is about 32 km of ordinary country roads — no greenway on this leg. The signed Tour du Jura Vélo Loisirs (155 km, 58 per cent on shared roads) is the third-day version, through the forêt de Chaux.
